1. You'll have sufficient time to talk with your parents. Show your parents the SYA information packet, have them browse the SYA website and look over our Curriculum Guide. It’s important to discuss the thought of studying abroad your junior or senior year of high school with your parents well in advance. Let them know they can contact our Admissions department at any time during the application process to ask questions!
5 Tips On Starting Your SYA Application
2. You'll have time to prepare. Starting your application early will leave plenty of time for conversations with your school, asking for your teacher recommendations and sitting down with your academic advisor with the SYA Curriculum Guide to make sure you’re getting all the classes you need. It will also allow you to start practicing your new host language. Remember, SYAFrance and SYA Spain have a 2 year language requirement but SYA Italy and SYA China have no language requirement. Whether you’re going in with foreign language experience or not, it’s always good idea to brush up on your language skills before studying abroad for a year.
3. You'll be ahead of the game. By the time February deadline approaches you’re good to go! Your recommendations are in, your application is complete and you submitted it weeks ago. This allows you to not stress about the application process but enjoy the rest of your year at your home school before you take the leap and study abroad!
Please feel free to contact our Admissions department at any point during your application process! They will be happy to help and answer your questions. We look forward to receiving your application in the next couple of months.
